About me

In 2013, after the invitation of coach ArtūrsViscokis-Rubenis (BK Ventspils head coach; the head coach of Latvian U18 national silver-winning team, assistant coach of Latvian men’s team for the past two years), I started an internship in his team - at that time Pārdaugava U19. While I was learning and gaining experience from coach Artūrs, I started to study basketball shooting mechanics, but of course in the form of self-education. In the course of time coach, Artūrs trusted me by giving some of his players so I could help them with their shooting mechanics. In 2015 I graduated from LTTC (Latvian Trainers Continuing Education Center) as a team sports coach. In 2016, after the success of some of my players and client growth, I left my day job and became the only full-time individual basketball skill coach in Latvia, meaning that I only train players individually and I am not a coach for any team.

In the year 2020, I started to work with my first NBA client Skal Labissière and in summer of 2022 I started to work with Kristaps Porzingis. Now I'm slowly building relationships and cooperation with players and coaches in the USA and working with building an online training program so I could help more players in Latvia and all around the world, but at the same time to be more accessible to international players & basketball clubs worldwide.

My training methods and numbers

I believe that basketball shooting mechanics are all about human bio-mechanics. Often people want to see from players a perfect shooting form that actually does not exist, at least in the real game. Basketball is not such an old sport in comparison to art that is something old and rich with traditions. James Naismith invented basketball in 1891. Since then basketball has evolved very much and still is evolving. Great men like Michael Jordan used to dominate the game, after that Lebron James, but now all teams have started to play a different style of basketball. It is because of Stephen Curry and his game-changing shooting ability. If players don’t adapt or evolve then there is a risk of rotating out of professional basketball.

Back to the shooting mechanics and why so many players have succeeded when training with me. In my job, I use “deliberate and deep practice” principles. It is a scientific method of how an individual can learn something as fast as possible and re-write myelin [sometimes people call it muscle memory].

The deep practice involves practicing by struggling in targeted ways. As Coyle writes in The Talent Code, “operating at the edges of your ability, where you make mistakes — makes you smarter.” It is a neurological science about the best training possible.

Without going into too much detail, I have studied all this quite a long time and I am still trying to find more effective ways on how to implement all this knowledge about training methods and shooting mechanics so that my clients can achieve the best results, and sometimes in a relatively short period of time. For example, Jabril Durham came to me on February 10th. He came as a nearly average shooter with low confidence about his shot. At that time his shooting percentage from three was around 29%. Although it was mid-season, thanks to his great attitude and deep practice method, along with my knowledge of bio-mechanical shooting, we were able to get his shot better than ever. And in five games of the LBL (Latvian Basketball League) playoffs, he shot 45% from deep, I mean, deep range. He said that he felt more confident and better about his shot than ever. There are many players who can learn and adapt fast to my training knowledge and methods. Roberts Bērze is another example. We worked together to prepare for FIBA U18 European championship. From pretty much average 35% deep range shooter he finished the whole tournament as the best shooter with 50% from three-point range.

I am confident about the effectiveness of my training methods, we learn from the best, we study players' bio-mechanics and we work smart and hard. So, you are welcome to join in if you want to become better and more successful.
